My name is Ken Sheffert. I am running for Hampton, New Hampshire, State Representative this November 5. As a strong advocate for our veterans, I am deeply proud to have helped push for the New Hampshire veteran tax credit, which now stands at $750. In New Hampshire, we enjoy the benefits of a no-sales or income tax environment, allowing families to keep more of their hard-earned money.
Having taken a Federal Personal Tax course, I gained insights into the labyrinth of tax codes influenced by various politicians and their pet projects. In stark contrast to our state, Massachusetts imposes heavy taxation that diminishes wealth accumulation for families. Friends of mine in Massachusetts recently sold their long-time family homes and faced real estate tax bills in the hundreds of thousands. Instead of benefiting from the value of their property—their family’s biggest wealth generator—they are left with little to invest in their future or health needs, as a significant portion goes to the state’s coffers.
In New Hampshire, the tax structure is straightforward: just federal taxes and a transfer tax. This clarity allows families and their Certified Public Accountants to decide how to allocate their resources best. Moreover, our home improvement projects enhance our living spaces and create jobs for local tradespeople, from carpenters to plumbers, further stimulating our economy and fostering a sense of local prosperity.
In Massachusetts, residents face an overwhelming array of taxes—sales taxes, excise taxes on fuel, personal property taxes, and more, draining their finances at every turn. The Massachusetts Department of Revenue offers little support in tax disputes, leaving taxpayers to navigate the system alone.
Here in New Hampshire, we prioritize our families and communities over-burdensome regulations and taxes. I am committed to preserving our no sales and income tax status, ensuring that families can manage their wealth and invest in their futures. Together, let’s keep New Hampshire a place where our residents thrive.
